Matt O'Meara - Long Rock

My Name is Matt O'Meara. On May 23rd 2010, I had a brain stem stroke. As a result of the stroke, I have lost 99% of my speech and movement.

I have always done some type of art but before my stroke I never painted. 

I talk by eyes and I hold the brush in my mouth, to paint. I plan all my paintings. I like colour because life is a bit grey.

I have always liked abstract paintings and landscapes. 

After my stroke I used art as therapy but it was restricted. Under new guidance I have been able to express myself through marking, making abstract landscapes and experimenting with different textures. 

A committed visual artist, Matt is always designing his compositions in advance, mostly sharing his vision through an aided communication device. He methodically plans the steps required to create his art and the colours he wishes to incorporate. He takes great pride in completing his considered projects on canvas, primarily using acrylic paints.
