[About the artist] ROBERT ‘BOB’ MAAS
Bob Maas was born in the mid-1960s in Sydney NSW. He moved at an early age to live in a mining town in Cobar, NSW until he was 16 years old. It was here that he learned to love to paint the outback.
After moving to the Sunshine Coast, QLD in the early ’80s, Maas graduated from Qld College Of Arts with an Applied Arts Certificate with Honours in 1986.
Maas became a prolific artist with a strong drive to continue drawing and painting. His art has given him strength and a purpose to cope with his lived experience of mental health issues.
Maas paints from life and photographs. He is inspired by artists such as Hans Heyson and Vincent Van Gogh. Winning many awards for his pastel works, Maas does prefer painting in oils, especially on large scale.
