There is always hope (person with cigarette) 2022
acrylic paint on canvas
This is an artwork that reflects a very sad and depressed person smoking a cigarette. The three birds flying in the top right corner represent Hope, Freedom and Happiness.
About Tanya Darl:
Tanya is a painter and photographer. She is inspired by the Australian landscape, including the colour and sparseness of the outback, rainforests, bushland, flowers, rivers and creeks, beaches, Australian streetscapes, old houses, and cityscapes. Tanya has done portraits of some famous Australians including James Morrison and Deborah Conway. She also loves to express her emotions through her artworks and has a semi-abstract style.
Tanya’s preferred tools are her bare hands, brushes, palette knives, squeegees and sponges. Painting with acrylics and oils on canvas, timber or cardboard is her preferred use of materials. She loves the feel and texture of paint.
Tanya’s technique is free and rapid, which is in sync with her sometimes fast mind. This technique has developed over her years of painting and experimenting. She drips, pours, flicks and smears paint onto the canvas, “which I thoroughly enjoy doing… I find it energetic and fun! I also find painting to be tiring and reflective... when I am tapping into my emotional work,” she said.
Recently Tanya has been experimenting with adding more dimensions to her artwork. This includes objects, sound, smell and texture. She is happy to make her art more accessible to all of our senses, and to those experiencing disability.
Recently Tanya has exhibited in the following exhibitions: Time at St Andrew’s War Memorial Hospital, Celebrating Difference at KPMG, IGNITE: 7 at Brindabella Business Park in Canberra and Paralym Art World Cup in Tokyo.
