Cross Skating

2022

acrylic gloss

30H x 30W cm

I remember when I was around 9 or 12 years old, my father's much younger brother introduced me to skating.

Well, the skates were too big for my feet causing me to stumble and fall most of the time, until I learnt to ask for the right size in skates. Then I was on my way!

By the time I was 14/15 years old, I was living with my mother’s family. I continued to skate instead of late-night shopping. By this time, I taught myself by watching others skate and I learned to cross skate ... deadly!

About the artist:

Duane Doyle Duane Doyle is a Jiman man (Yimen) from Taroom and Carnarvon Gorge country. He identifies with his Mother’s totem, the googoobing (scrub turkey). Googoobing waters flow through the Browns and Comet Rivers in the Highlands of Central Queensland. Duane strives to implement the power of Dadirri meditation in his artwork and lifestyle, deeply listening to country and its people of all origins.

His paintings often come about as an expression of the emotions that mark both positive and traumatic experiences in his lifetime. He generates symbolism in a contemporary way that draws from the traditional techniques passed on to him over a lifetime of painting.

Duane is a proud painter with West End Community House and a predominant part of the West End landscape, via his work as an arts and cultural educator. His artworks are featured in People's Park West End.
