"My name is Nikita Herd. I am a proud Djabugay woman and an emerging contemporary Aboriginal Artist selling commissioned art pieces. I was born and raised in the Tropical Far North Queensland on my traditional land in Kuranda & Cairns. I have the privilege of understanding my connection to both the rainforest and the sea.
I began my tertiary education journey in Cairns at James Cook University where I studied for two years and through this began interning in Brisbane city. I then made the decision to move to the Gold Coast, where I currently reside.
Pieces that I create are often a reflection of my childhood upbringing and how my connection to my Country remains prominent even though I may not have the chance to always walk my traditional lands. Through my artwork, I intend on telling my stories. I take immense pride in the quality of my work and each art piece. Through this, I am able to share stories that are important to me.

This piece entails the connection of the echidna to both the physical and spiritual world. The echidna is also my father’s totem, and in the piece, the larger echidna is my father’s spirit, and the smaller echidna is my father. This depicts the growth in both our physical and spiritual presences. The colours represent the earth many colours that I have had the privilege to love from my traditional country".
