About the Artist
Michael Duke is an eco-artist living with Autism. Born in Brisbane, Michael has been a practicing artist since he was around 18 years old.
He is primarily interested in animal portraiture, particularly native Australian animals. Michael prefers to work in acrylics, but also creates art using pastels and coloured pencils. Additionally, he produces sculptural works from modelling clay to create short animated films.
Michael is passionate about animals, preferring to work from photographs which he takes of both wild animals and those found in wildlife sanctuaries. His works are figurative, with bold, isolated colours and fine details. He says:
I like doing art of native Australian animals, and because I have good eyesight, I am good with painting detail.
Michael’s paintings enhance the colours he sees, he utilises his unique artistic eye identifying many finer details and colours that others are unable to see.
