Collection: Eloquent : Art, Communication and Disability

Just as standard spoken communication is a partnership between the speaker and the receiver, viewing an artwork is a partnership between artist and the viewer.

The goal of this exhibition is to represent how intertwined creativity and communication are for people living with disability, and especially recognise how different types of communication cross over with art making.

Adopting the view of American Philosopher John Dewey, that art is the “most universal and freest form of communication.”

There are some things that can only be communicated through art making. This exhibition will showcase work by artists with disabilities that affect their language and communication, and art created with adaptive communication methods.
