Neuronormative culture prioritises eye contact during verbal conversation on the basis that it shows interest but it doesn’t respect those who use gaze aversion for smoother cognitive processing. It highlights the question, are you being polite or are you actually listening.

About the artist
Brooke is a passionate artist, writer and disability advocate who lives with a complex disability and is neurodivergent. Brooke's skills come to life through their creative practice, which powerfully symbolizes the impact of creativity in advocacy. Fueled by a deep passion for music, Brooke's art is inspired by their distinctive experience with sound. The expressive mark-making channels their synesthesia, while the use of texture embodies the joy of a sensory-driven approach to art.
*Songs written in collaboration with Kassie Sofia at Rhythm Music Therapy, using a process I would describe as adaptive songwriting. We utilized a range of visual tools and breaking down of music into parts, to adapt the process to suit my neurodivergent/synesthete brain.
