The Wildlife of Australia is a fantastic theme for any artist of any era. I love all of the unusual animals and birds. They cannot be found elsewhere in the world, only in Australia.

Australia has more than 140 species of marsupials, including kangaroos, wallabies, koalas, and wombats. They are all so cute! Once, I even had a chance to hold a koala. I will never forget that experience. Never. I love to hear kookaburras and flying foxes and I am never angry at possums for loud noises in the middle of the night right above my head in the attic of my house. It is just Australia in all its glory and I take it all in my heart.

After many years of living here I still think that I am living in paradise. I consider myself extremely lucky to be able to depict these wonderful animals.

About Margarita Iakovleva:

I was born in Saint-Petersburg, Russia. Saint-Petersburg is a city of visual art, music and science. When you live in such an environment, you just must become an artist, musician or scientist.

I studied in a children art school and after this finished at an Art Institute. In Russia, I worked as a Graphic Designer and Fashion Designer.

I arrived in Australia 24 years ago. Here I studied Digital Graphic Design and continued to draw and paint. After many years I return to making etchings, which I enjoy very much. I double my enjoyment by choosing Australian animals, as I love them very much. I learnt photography, and now I photograph Australian animals and Brisbane city architecture.

Once, I even had a chance to hold a koala. I will never forget that experience. Never!
