Yellowjackets
2022
oil on canvas
Like every other artwork that I’ve created for this exhibition, I painted by copying from a picture. All the images I chose to copy off share some sort of emotional stress.
Yellowjackets shows a woman that is trapped. She is isolated and alone with no one to help her, but something is coming for her. She is battered and bruised, and I don’t think anyone's coming to help her. I've always been obsessed with angst, whether it’s in TV shows, movies or painting.
About Frazer Campbell
My art practice is diverse. I enjoy creating artworks ranging from portraiture to abstract. Inspiration comes from a variety of artists and artistic movements including; Sheet Art, Jean-Michel Basquiat and Modigliani. I like to keep things fresh and unstructured, letting the image evolve on the canvas.
For a long time, faces were difficult for me to read, but now I love them – the stories they tell us, and the secrets they keep.
Art matters. It is my bridge between where I usually am, and were you are. It helps us meet somewhere in the middle.
