About Kirsty Leishman

Kirsty Leishman began exploring her creativity in art therapy groups. Motivated by a desire to develop her practice, she responded to the idea that drawing is a kind of literacy —that it can be learned like spelling and grammar by understanding and applying a few basic principles. She has continued to practise her drawing even while discovering coiled raffia weaving in a women’s weaving group. She has found the physical activity of weaving beneficial for her mental health and has connected with a generous community of weavers from Australia and around the world on social media. Kirsty is exploring coiled weaving further, combining it with ceramics, and representing it in other media, particularly drawing and painting.
