Collection: The Neurodivergence Project

The Neurodivergence Project is a new idea at Art From The Margins. We want to have a creative conversation about thinking, feeling, sensing, interpreting, being and all the pieces in-between. We are opening our gallery space for 6 weeks and together as a community of neuro diverse people we want to share our artistic experiments with you. We also want you to join in and make art alongside us.

The term Neurodiversity was coined by Australian sociologist Judy Singer. She helped popularise the concept along with US based journalist Harvey Blume, who wrote a piece for the NY times in 1997. Blume used the term neurological pluralism and was vocal about the role the internet would play in fostering an international neuro-diverse movement. These days, we know a lot more about neurodivergence, but the conversation is still going, and this project is our own contribution.

Throughout the Neurodivergence Project, we will have workshops, talks, artists in residence, a sensory space, a maker’s space and artwork exhibited by many of our studio artists. We’ll be featuring Felicity Clarke’s artwork exploring neurological diversity and anxiety.
